BEGINNING WITH BOOKS
Beginning with Books staff is made up of experts in early literacy and early childhood. They provide workshops on early literacy topics to parents, teachers, and caregivers. Outreach specialists and trained support staff also work in the community to develop literacy and work with some early childhood centers to make sure that high-quality books are used and the centers are a literacy-rich environment. They also provide free books to many organizations in Pittsburgh for distribution to low-income families and operate the Storymobile which brings books to low-income communities.

CARNEGIE LIBRARY OF PITTSBURGH
18 neighborhood locations and Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Several programs offered.

COMMUNITY LITERACY CENTER
Collaboration between Community House and the Center for the Study of Writing at Carnegie Mellon University. Urban teens and adults, with the support of their Carnegie Mellon student mentors, use writing and public dialogue to take action and to address the dreams and problems of our urban neighborhoods.

GOODWILL LIERACY INITIATIVE (GLI)
Provides Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation to adults. The program features classroom-based instruction and one-to-one help in the basic skill areas of reading, writing and verbal communication, mathematics, history, and science as well as life skills.
