Smoking Cessation for Parents and Caregivers
PENNSYLVANIA QUITLINE 1-800 QUIT NOW
Pennsylvania's Free Quitline (1-800-784-8669) is offered as a partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the American Cancer Society. Based on state-of-the art techniques in smoking cessation, the service provides counseling and structured assistance for individuals who are committed to quitting.
Smokers who live in Pennsylvania and are committed to quitting smoking are eligible to call the "Free Quitline" for smoking cessation assistance. Those wanting to help someone quit also are encouraged to call.

This project provides church and community-based Start Smart smoking cessation classes, support groups, individual Pathways to Freedom, nicotine replacement, weight control through low impact physical activity and one day workshops. Childcare assistance and transportation are available. Classes are free and are operated on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Freedom From Smoking is an adult cessation program available online at
www.lungusa.org (free) or in group facilitation format (minimal cost). It is an 8
session behavior modification program.

Adult cessation programs are offered. Smoke Free for Life is an 8
session clinic providing ongoing support for several months to sustain quitting.
The cost is $50. The 21 Day Personal Reduction Program is a computer-based,
individually tailored program which brings a smoker to 0 cigarettes by day 21.
There is no cost for this program.

A free program based on the American Cancer Society model is offered for
adult patients upon sufficient request. The group meets once a week for 6
sessions. Quit aides are voluntary.
UPMC Community Initiatives

The STOP! Program is geared toward stopping tobacco use during pregnancy.
It offers help through individual and group counseling while giving cash rewards
for referrals and gifts for participation. There are convenient locations
throughout the Pittsburgh area and transportation is provided.

Participating hospitals include: Shadyside, McKeesport, UPMC Rehab Hospital, St. Margaret, South Side, WPIC, Braddock, Passavant (Lee Regional in Johnstown, Latrobe Area Hospital, Bedford Memorial)
Smoking cessation groups are offered on an ongoing basis for adults. Seven
one hour sessions with long term follow-up are provided. The cost of the
program is $25 plus the cost of any smoking cessation medication the attendee
decides to use. Call for exact times and locations.
