Africentric Personal Development Shop (APDS)

Program: Provides culturally responsive behavioral healthcare and personal development programs for individuals and families. The organization was founded by and centers the African American community but serves all regardless of race, gender, disability, or economic status. They offer treatment and prevention programs for substance use and other mental health concerns. Programs include outpatient treatment with individual and group sessions, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance use disorders (SUD), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), aftercare programming, case management, and peer recovery support. They also offer a grief and loss peer support group, domestic violence intervention and prevention classes for adults, and Mindful Reactions anger management course for teens and young adults.
Youth programs include APDS SMART 2.0 Summer Camp, personal development program for ages 9-17, Urban GEMS for ages 12-19 to grow healthy food in their own neighborhood, and UCANN Lead for ages 11-17 to experience mentorship and civic engagement. They also offer two scholarships each year for youth ages 17-22 pursuing higher education.
Eligibility: Varies by program.
Cost: Accepts most major insurances, Medicaid, and self-pay. Cost for services is based on client’s household income.
