Africentric Personal Development Shop (APDS)

Program: Provides culturally responsive behavioral healthcare and personal development programs for individuals and families. The organization was founded by and centers the African American community but serves all regardless of race, gender, disability, or economic status. They offer treatment and prevention programs for substance use and other mental health concerns. Programs include outpatient treatment with individual and group sessions, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance use disorders (SUD), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), aftercare programming, case management, and peer recovery support. They also offer a grief and loss peer support group, domestic violence intervention and prevention classes for adults, and Mindful Reactions anger management course for teens and young adults.
Youth programs include APDS SMART 2.0 Summer Camp, personal development program for ages 9-17, Urban GEMS for ages 12-19 to grow healthy food in their own neighborhood, and UCANN Lead for ages 11-17 to experience mentorship and civic engagement. They also offer two scholarships each year for youth ages 17-22 pursuing higher education.
Eligibility: Varies by program.
Cost: Accepts most major insurances, Medicaid, and self-pay. Cost for services is based on client’s household income.

Center for New Beginnings Shelter & Services

Serves: Single Adults & Families
Provides free, confidential, and supportive services for community members in Licking County who are victims of domestic violence. Services include emergency food and shelter, case management, assistance with Civil Protection Orders, peer support and therapeutic groups, and a confidential 24-hour crisis line for questions or those in immediate danger.

Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Division of Domestic Relations & Juvenile Branch

Handles all domestic relations matters, including protection for victims of domestic violence, for juvenile citizens. They offer a variety of mediation services to help settle matters without a full legal trial, Civil Protection Orders (CPO’s) / Juvenile Protection Orders (JPO’s), interpreters, Self Represented Resource Center (SRRC) for those who do not have the financial resources to retain private counsel, and more. Their Youth Education and Intervention Services Department works to divert youth from further involvement with the Juvenile Justice System through prevention, intervention and treatment services. Freedom a la Cart

Café and catering kitchen providing empowering survivors of sex trafficking in Central Ohio. Anyone can go online to view their Café Menu, place a Catering order, or purchase a gift card. Their programs include a 2 -year comprehensive workforce development program, CATCH Court Support for victims involved in the justice system, and affordable housing. The Butterfly Program is a peer-to-peer program for women healing from trauma and substance use disorder to work towards a GED or high school diploma, participate in counseling, receive assistance with paperwork, get record expungement, and other supports. They also offer community events, speaking engagements, and volunteer opportunities.

National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH)

Provides free and confidential help, information, and referrals for those impacted by domestic violence. Their website provides information on how to identify abuse, safety plan, how to support someone you know experiencing abuse, and resources for perpetrators. They also have resources for finding providers near you, legal help, and specialized programs for the deaf or hard of hearing, teens and young adults, and Native Americans.

Ohio Hispanic Coalition

Provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services for Latino/Hispanic communities throughout Ohio. The afterschool program offers enrichment at three sites in Columbus for youth with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) in grades K-7. Juventud en Acción is a dynamic youth leadership group for ages 14-18. The Latino Career Development program offers career support for adults authorized to work in the United States.

The Soy Latina program provides comprehensive support for Latina/Latino clients facing challenges related to safety and wellbeing, including domestic violence and sexual assault. Support is available in English and Spanish by trained bilingual advocates. Services include safety planning, court companionship, crisis intervention, referrals to additional services, and more. All services are free. Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio (SARNCO)

Provides advocacy and emotional support services in conjunction with medical and social services at OhioHealth Emergency Departments and other local facilities in central Ohio. The 24-hour free, confidential local rape helpline offers emotional support, counseling referrals and education for victims of sexual assault, rape, abuse and incest. The Aftercare Advocacy program helps survivors access additional community resources, with legal reporting, and safety planning.
